Our take

Hi Dotikers!

With AI Foundry, Adobe is offering companies custom generative models built on Firefly and trained on licensed data. The stated goal: to produce text, images, video, and even 3D content ; all while adhering to each brand’s identity and reducing legal risks associated with AI.

In concrete terms, AI Foundry isn’t a simple “magic button” but rather a consulting and implementation service. Adobe teams retrain the models using the client’s proprietary assets, with the promise of a safer framework for commercial use. The first names mentioned ; Home Depot and Walt Disney Imagineering ; clearly signal an enterprise-focused approach.

It’s the right direction. The market no longer buys generic models; it buys confidentiality, consistency, and control. The real differentiator is no longer the size of the model, but the quality of the data and the pipeline. And since a touch of humor never hurts ; let’s say it plainly: Adobe wants to be the tailor of tuxedos for models, not the seller of T-shirts.

Still, serious questions remain. How much does such a project cost? How long does it take to operationalize? What level of dependency does it create on Adobe? What verifiable guarantees exist regarding data governance and liability in case of disputes?

The timing is no accident. In 2025, Adobe opened Firefly to third-party partner models, signaling a more open strategy, while facing ongoing pressure to show a quick return on AI investment. AI Foundry looks like an acceleration of monetization through service-based offerings, which are more predictable than credit-based sales alone.
