Just one week after OpenAI's announcement, Anthropic joins the race with Claude for Healthcare. The timing is no coincidence — the medical AI market, already home to billion-dollar startups like Abridge and Sword Health, is now attracting the industry's heavyweights.
So what does this new offering bring to the table? Claude now has access to Medicare databases, the ICD-10 coding system, and over 35 million PubMed publications. For healthcare providers, this means an AI assistant that can help speed up Prior Authorization requests — the paperwork that often delays patient care by days.
On the patient side, US Pro and Max subscribers will be able to connect their personal health data through HealthEx and Function Health. Anthropic has committed to not using this data for model training.
The service runs on Claude Opus 4.5, which the company claims delivers better performance and fewer errors on medical tasks. Are we witnessing the emergence of a new generation of AI assistants in our hospitals? One thing's for certain: the race is on.
