Anthropic just closed a monumental Series F funding round of $13 billion, bringing its valuation to $183 billion. This ICONIQ-led operation positions Anthropic as a serious challenger to OpenAI, valued at $300 billion and currently exploring discussions for a potential $500 billion valuation.
The growth figures are staggering: Anthropic went from $1 billion in annualized revenue at the beginning of 2025 to over $5 billion in August, a fivefold increase in eight months. The company now serves over 300,000 businesses, with large accounts growing sevenfold in a year. Against OpenAI's $10 billion in annualized recurring revenue (with projections up to $20 billion by the end of 2025), Anthropic proves it can compete on pure growth.
The Claude Code phenomenon perfectly illustrates this dynamic. Launched in May 2025, this AI coding tool already generates over $500 million in annualized revenue with adoption multiplying tenfold in three months. Developers have massively adopted it for its unique ability to generate code that is not only performant but, crucially, secure, avoiding common vulnerabilities of other AI tools. This obsession with security, embedded in Anthropic's DNA since its pioneering work in alignment and interpretability, has convinced Fortune 500 companies to entrust their critical operations to Claude.
With this record raise, Anthropic plans to accelerate on three fronts: meeting explosive enterprise demand, deepening AI safety research, and expanding internationally. In an industry where OpenAI and Anthropic now combine for nearly $500 billion in valuation, the generative AI race is intensifying with security as the new strategic battlefield.
