At DevDay 2025, OpenAI made a decisive shift. ChatGPT is no longer just a conversational model but a platform designed to host rich and programmable interactions. The most notable announcement was the release of the Apps SDK in preview, allowing developers to build applications that live directly inside the chat flow, with interactive interfaces and contextual awareness (sadly not available in EU for now).

In parallel, OpenAI introduced AgentKit, a new suite of tools aimed at simplifying the creation, deployment, and optimization of intelligent agents. With modules such as Agent Builder for workflow modeling, ChatKit for embedding conversational interfaces, and automated evaluation mechanisms, AgentKit brings coherence to today’s fragmented agent ecosystem.

At the same time, OpenAI continues to strengthen its multimodal capabilities. Video generation is becoming more robust through the Sora series within its API, while Codex, the company’s code generation engine, is now generally available to help developers build (much) faster.

Other updates like GPT-5 Pro available in the API or the gpt-image-1 model were also mentioned, though they played a more secondary role, reflecting steady progress rather than headline breakthroughs.

Overall, DevDay 2025 revealed a clear vision: ChatGPT is evolving into a composable platform capable of hosting both applications and agents, turning artificial intelligence into a programmable interaction layer that connects people and technology more naturally.
