Our take
Hi Dotikers!
Yesterday we were watching the muted battle over the identity of AI agents, that plumbing-level argument about open standards where the big labs were conspicuous mostly by their absence. Anthropic has just explained why: while committees discuss a neutral, interoperable agent identity, the lab is shipping its own, proprietary and planted at the heart of Slack.
Claude Tag, launched yesterday in research preview for Enterprise and Team customers, turns @Claude into a permanent colleague. You mention it in a thread, hand it a task, and everyone sees what it's doing. One shared identity per channel, a memory that persists, an assistant that learns the company message by message. Its ambient mode goes further: it steps in on its own to revive a forgotten task or surface a piece of information from another channel.
The productivity pitch is just the wrapping. The real move is elsewhere. By settling in where the work already happens, Claude accumulates context no one else holds, and leaving becomes expensive. This is exactly the recipe that made Slack indispensable. Shared identity sharpens the trap: a personal bot walks out with the employee, a channel assistant belongs to whoever pays the bill.
Everyone is chasing the same loot. Microsoft through Copilot and Work IQ, Glean with its middle layer, Snowflake and Databricks through infrastructure. Anthropic's bet is narrower, more disciplined: live inside the conversation rather than blanket every app. At a $965 billion valuation with an IPO filing submitted, every product decision now reads against the markets.
Then there's the detail marketing prefers to gloss over. A colleague who never switches off, forgets nothing and reads everything doesn't demand a salary. Just a subscription.
Alex.
