Our take
Hi Dotikers!
If the report (Bloomberg) is confirmed, Mistral would be closing a €2 billion round at a valuation of around €12 billion; about $14 billion. For a two-year-old startup, that’s a fast-track entry into the ranks of Europe’s heavyweights. The unicorn now has wings; it’s up to them to prove they don’t get dizzy at altitude.
This leap would nearly double the valuation from June 2024, when Mistral raised €600 million at a €5.8 billion valuation. In other words, the market is paying a hefty premium today for the “open and sovereign AI” option; Paris’s rallying cry as a credible alternative to U.S. offerings.
The proof, however, still lies in product and distribution. On execution, Mistral has launched Le Chat for enterprises, integrated with 20 platforms (big up MCP), claimed fast traction, and highlighted controlled deployments with clients; including outside U.S. clouds. The signal is positive, but the bar rises with valuation: they’ll need to secure multi-year contracts, industrial-grade integrations, and a flawless user experience… documentation included 🙂
The timing is no accident. In Europe, AI funding jumped 55% in Q1 2025 to $3.4 billion, already accounting for a quarter of all venture capital on the continent. Late-stage capital is flowing again, giving Mistral a rare window to raise at scale. But beware: easy money is no substitute for adoption.
If this round closes, Mistral stops being the likable outsider and becomes the platform to beat in Europe. The next step isn’t making headlines again; it’s stacking proof of large-scale use cases beyond France, with solid recurring revenue. Just a month ago, the press was still talking about a €10 billion target…
