Our take
Hi Dotikers!
The AI assistant wars have officially moved into the boardroom. A month after OpenAI gave ChatGPT a data agent that builds dashboards, Anthropic just fired back with Claude Dashboards, now in beta, plus a surprising little tool called Claude Motion that animates your charts without any video model involved.
The pitch is simple: connect Claude to Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift or ClickHouse, describe what you want to know, and get a live dashboard. Click any number and you see the exact SQL query behind it. That transparency is genuinely the smartest part of the announcement. In a world where executives are expected to trust AI-generated figures, showing your work is not a nice-to-have, it is the whole game.
Let's be honest about what this really is, though. Neither OpenAI nor Anthropic wants to remain a mere token vendor selling raw intelligence by the kilo. The real money sits in the enterprise productivity stack, and both are climbing it as fast as possible. BI vendors should be paying very close attention, because when your biggest feature becomes a chat prompt away, your moat starts looking more like a puddle.
That said, caution is warranted before anyone plugs Claude into a production warehouse. Anthropic has not clarified whether Claude writes SQL directly against tables or uses a semantic layer, nor whose credentials refresh a shared dashboard. For a company that built its brand on safety, leaving those governance questions open feels like an uncharacteristic blind spot. Enterprises will demand answers, and they should.
Claude Motion, meanwhile, is a clever workaround: no video model, just code-generated animations you can edit until export. Pragmatic, flexible, and very on-brand for Anthropic.
The direction is clear: AI assistants are no longer writing your emails, they are reading your data warehouse. Choose your connector wisely.
