Our take
Hi Dotikers!
OpenAI dropped GPT-6 Astra this week, and the launch video says more than any press release. Someone draws a yellow circle, Astra turns it into a rocket window, then a full 3D model in Blender, then a printable file. Meanwhile it books a tennis court, revises a legal agreement and builds a game prototype. The message is clear: this is no longer a chatbot you talk to, it is a colleague you delegate work to.
The numbers are impressive on paper. 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3, 100% on ExploitBench, near saturation on FrontierMath Tier 4, and it is the first OpenAI model to cross the company's critical cybersecurity threshold. Greg Brockman went all in, declaring "Welcome to the AGI era" to journalists, just weeks after Sam Altman called AGI an "irrelevant marketing term." Someone at OpenAI clearly forgot to sync the talking points before the briefing.
Here is the thing though: the fine print matters more than the headline. That 99.9% ARC score was achieved with OpenAI's own harness, which carries reasoning state between requests. On the neutral Standard harness, Astra scored 62.7%. Still a remarkable jump, but calling this AGI is premature and, frankly, more about fundraising narratives than science. ARC Prize itself, the organization behind the benchmark, explicitly refuses to make that leap.
What genuinely changed is reliability. Astra stays on the job, completes multi-step computer tasks in half the time of its predecessor, and works with the software you already use. That is the real story: less magic, more usefulness. The AGI debate will rage on Twitter, but businesses should focus on one question only. Can this thing finish the work I give it? For the first time, the honest answer is getting close to yes.
